Pixels & Monsters - The Meeting of D&D and Video Game Design

Add one more blog to the blogosphere.

Pixels & Monsters is my corner within the ever-growing immensity of the blogging community. Its purpose, as the name illustrates, is to discuss Dungeons & Dragons, video games, and how the design, history, and tropes of one can influence the other.

My goal with Pixels & Monsters is to critique current video game design (focused on, but not limited to, role playing games like World of Warcraft), compare video game design to old school pen-and-paper game design, and offer my own ideas on how new generations of gamers can be exposed to these older elements. More generally, the purpose of the blog is to put my thoughts about video games and D&D (both of which pretty much are on my mind constantly) into a written form and share it with others.

The plan is to write an article each day (or more than one, should inspiration strike). Hopefully they will remain consistently interesting.

For my first substantive post, I will spell out my ideas for how a gaming company can use some of the core principles of Dungeons & Dragons to create a single-player/MMO hybrid that may actually have a chance of dethroning WoW, unlike any of the other current offerings. A business model for this new type of game will also be discussed.

Stay tuned!
